There is a request in the club forum, Introduce yourself section for an opinion regarding a recently purchased loco. I was about to reply to this when I thought that being a committee member might be regarded as an answer from the club. Should an officer of the club answer questions like this after due deliberation by a group of committee members?

I would not give an opinion on a loco without first observing/handling it . Seeing as its hardly practical to hand round a loco to each committee member except, perhaps at exhibitions, all one can give is a personal opinion with a proviso that it does not represent the opinion of the committee.
Good point Mike,,,, maybe stating that “ in your own humble opinion” or similar would put the owness of opinion with yourself and not the club per se!!
Hi Mike, I think one can give a personal opinion, not the club, without seeing the loco it's difficult to be sure. However the loco has been run and the seller has now admitted that. It was described as new and unused. My French is not good, but the seller does not mention in the e bay list that the loco has been run or test run. There is therefore a hit to value. The price of $907 (£650) is above the average for a new unused loco. Chris keeps a record of prices acheived, the average in 2017 was £600, the highest £895. As he wants to run it, best to negotiate a lower price, the parts should not be too difficult to source. Maurice
