Now Nick has collected the spares donated by Hornby we need to decide on the best way to use them so I have started this dedicated discussion.
After Warley and over the Christmas period Nick and George plan to unpack and collate all the items and a spreadsheet will be made available for all the committee to view.
As a starting point I have transferred the initial collection photos from the WhatsApp group.

Some thoughts:
I would like to vounteer to have a go at a small heap of chassis, tenders and assorted bits/pieces to see how many working locos I can rebuild. Once something is working, we can take a view on whether it's good enough to be sold or whether it should become a roadshow loco.
I suggest we take a "dud" loco/tender and cutaway sections of all the key inner working parts to create a display model, mounted on a suitable plinth to be shown at roadshows as a way to explain how the magic happens. They do it on the full size locos at certain museums, so I think we should follow their example.
I like Adrian's idea of a "practice" loco for improving dismantling and re-assembly skills. The box of bits might produce a few of these (non-runners). Two further thoughts on this theme - firstly, we could offer the "practice" loco as a short-term loan to club members (for a modest fee) for them to hone their skills on; secondly, we could have one on the repair bench at events for members to sit down and spend an hour or so dismantling/rebuilding a loco, with expert help close at hand in case they get stuck.

There looks to be some original spare parts already packeted and numbered so I guess these should go staright into the shop for sale by Nick.
Also looks to be a lot of used spares which might be useful for servicing and recovering the broken locos we see in the pics.
But we might be able to sell them as used spares if in good condition.
As for the locos, tenders and their bodies we should be able to get some working again either to sell or use as club locos. I suggest that, after they have been catalogued and numbered with a unique ID, they be sent out to those experienced enough to attempt to re-build them and assess their condition for future use.
This is gold for us!! 😁 and let's see what George and Nick come up with.
I've also never dared repaint a body with my airbrush so a body and tender to experiment on would be great
I for one, having never dared disassemble one of my precious locos would love something to practice on guided by club videos.
Not necessarily get it going but just to give me the confidence to service mine.
