- Club shop has gone digital and Eco-friendly!!In General Discussion21 April 2022Adrian, all shop items are now labelled up with my bespoke code 128 barcode system and the Zettle POS shop is all up to date so it’s a very smooth operation. You have to be able to create your own codes according to your own data using the printer software requirements so that the printer knows what it’s doing. We use a Brother machine along with the bother App. This also prints out my self adhesive postage labels. We don’t deal with Hornby in any way where we would want to read thier barcodes and they read ours so I don’t really see your point here.00
- Maurice RourkeIn General Discussion4 August 2022I appreciate the support re the costs of my trip to London to collect Maurice's items. Ampara very kindly insisted on paying for my hotel for the night so the costs are for fuel and ULEZ charges only. On both days traffic issues meant using the M6 & M40, 216 miles in each direction - total 432 miles. the refill cost was £90.22 ULEZ was two days at !2.50, total £25 The total cost was £115.2200
- John Humphrys RIPIn General Discussion2 November 2022i had the privilege of getting to know John rather well. From the very earliest days following the launch of OOLIVE Steam and purchasing my very first Mallard set during December 2003, I was invited to pay frequent visits to Johns test layout, located in a modest room within the vast empty cavern of a place that once housed the mighty industrial machinery that produced Triang and later, Hornby Triang Model Railways. He welcomed my twins Hugh and Isabelle then toddlers aged around 6 yrs and my lovely old chum Richard Hodding (now aged 96) who had an encyclopedic memory for anything remotely connected with trains especially B17s. John always ensured that I left the premises with a good stock of spares. Some several years later. When Adrian and myself held our very first joint show at the Ally Pally, John came down with several of the directors.(I'm not sure if it included Simon Choler) and watched for a good couple of hours as we entertained the sometimes considerable crowd, to a fabulous show of how to run Hornby Live Steam. The rest is history. It was the birth of the OOLSC. Believe me when I tell you that I will protect that wonderful legacy of our club together with the memory book of a remarkable and lovely guy, John Humphreys. RIP ole chum.00
- Maurice RourkeIn General Discussion25 August 2022Charles I will let Ampara know you are coming. No you have not missed anything. As yet none of the live steam items have been listed in Maurice Rourke Legacy spreadsheet. I posted the photos just so you can all see why there will be a delay before I get them all collated. The loco that has been sold was to a guy who just prior to Maurice's passing contacted us to buy a limited edition. No definite order had been agreed and after I collected the stock from London I realised that there was an 'oven ready' (to quote Boris) solution in the form of Walter K Wigham. Offered at a slight discount to the full cost of a Limited Edition repaint and purchase of a chassis he naturally bought the loco. However if you want to match the £550 price you can have the loco and I will revert him to the original plan of locationing a body & chassis and getting it resprayed. I will need to know quickly though. As I replied to Adrian I am away for a midweek break at Centre Parcs next week but will soon make some progress once I get back. There are six complete locos (one of which has just been sold) and thirteen and a half chassis, body and bits combinations. Once chassis, bodies & bit have been reunited they will be added to the Maurice Rourke Legacy spreadsheet. Eric and I have has agreed to service & rebuild half each. Although still up for discussion it seems sensible that some are used to replace current 'problematic' Roadshow locos (to allow the not so good ones to be broken up for parts) and some sold to raise money to support the club. Once everything has been listed we can then have the discussion about how best to utilise them.0
